Way More Israel: The first month
Hi, my name is Lauren and I’m from Cape Town in sunny South Africa. I am currently participating in the Way More Israel spring program.
It’s crazy how quickly time flies. It feels like just yesterday we were all strangers with completely different backgrounds. Now I can say that I feel like I’ve known everyone for years. I also feel so at home living in the Old City and am finally learning how to get around with ease.
The last month has been nothing less than busy, but also stimulating. There have been a myriad of activities which include a shabbaton, a tour of the old city, a day trip to the Negev, an improv evening and so much more.
Last week we all started with our internships. It’s amazing how vast the range if internships is. I am fortunate enough to be involved in pediatric occupational therapy at Ptach learning centre in Ramat Eshkol. I am thoroughly enjoying myself and am learning new things daily. I spent the first week observing and from this week I will get to work with some kids on my own- a task that seems both challenging and also rewarding. I am so lucky to be working in the exact field that I want to study.
